The Queensland Maroons won the 2017 State of Origin series, with a 22-6 victory over the NSW Blues at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

Newcastle Knight Dane Gagai was named Player of the Series, becoming the first winger in Origin history to claim the man of the series accolade.

Gagai made an incredible 577m across three games and increased his try tally to seven in six games.

Speaking to NRL.com in the dressing sheds after the match, Gagai said the award would be something he would always treasure.

"I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed," Gagai said.

"I haven’t really won anything like this before, especially at this level of football.

"To receive a player of the series award is definitely something that I'll never forget. It will be a memory I cherish for the rest of my life."

Earlier, the NSW Under 16s defeated Queensland 22-16, with Knights' Bradman Best scoring the match winning try. Fellow Knight Jaron Purcell, was captained the side, was named man of the match.
