Experienced nib Newcastle Knights forward Jamie Buhrer admits it was great to be back out on the field on Sunday, but it was certainly not the result he was hoping for.

“I was a little bit gassed at certain points,” Buhrer told Knights TV in the sheds after the match on Sunday.

“It was good to be back but just a terrible result.”

Buhrer knows it was the first half which cost them the match.

“20 points down at halftime, you’ve obviously done something wrong in the first half,” he said.

“Mis-communications I suppose in defence.

“We will nut it out tomorrow and hopefully we can fix it because we’re well past the mid-way point of the year and frankly that performance is, especially from a player’s point, it’s embarrassing.”

The Knights forward admits now is the time their dedication at training needs to translate into wins.

“I feel like last week and this week, we couldn’t have gone into the game any better prepared,” Buhrer explained.

“The coaches are working their tails off and we’re going into the game certainly believing that we can win and frankly just as players we just haven’t been performing well enough.

“There is no help coming, we’re well past June 30 and we need to look within ourselves and fix it.”
