nib Newcastle Knights forward Lachlan Fitzgibbon admits it was another tough day at the office after being defeated by the Melbourne Storm on Friday night.

“They are a seasoned forward pack and they have good players coming back but that is no excuse, we knew what we were going to get,” Fitzgibbon said in the sheds after the match.

“The first 20 minutes they gave it to us but we managed to fight back and then there was a couple of lapses in the second half and they ran away with it.”

Despite the score line, the 23-year-old scored his first try for the 2017 NRL season.

“I did get the try but there is always something I can improve on and as a team I guess we’ve got to back it up against Manly,” he added.

The Knights forward feels it was a disappointing result considering their efforts on the training park.

“We have been training really well over the past 12 weeks," Fitzgibbon said.

“We had a really good week leading into this game and off the back of that, we have got to start again on Monday.”

The Knights forward knows they’re up for another challenge against a sixth-placed Manly Sea Eagles this Friday.

“It is always a tough game against Manly,” said Fitzgibbon.

“Especially down at Brookie (Lottoland), there is always that old rivalry and it will be a good test for us down there.”
