Young forward Sam Stone pulled off the only try for the nib Newcastle Knights in their loss to the Gold Coast Titans on the weekend.

The 19-year-old, who was recently named in the junior Kangaroos squad, crashed over in the 13th minute for his second try of the season.

“The try was a bit of bonus but we were definitely not good enough out there today,” Stone told Knights TV in the sheds after the match.

“We should have been better and the try means nothing if you don’t win.”

Stone maintains it’s the possession difference that continues to cost them.

“It seems like every week we’re giving away 58 42 possession and we’re just running out of gas at the end of the game,” explained Stone.

“We need to complete our sets a bit more and maybe force a few errors so we can even up that possession.”

Despite the disappointing loss, Stone has praised the vibrant Queensland fan base who loudly cheered on the red and blue on the Gold Coast.

“The fans were great,” he said.

“We must have plenty of fans here because there was nearly just as much Knights supporters as there was Gold Coast supporters, yeah our supporters are great.”

The young forward admits it will be good to have a week off with the bye.

“We will be doing plenty of video and getting the body right in the next couple of weeks and go from there,” said Stone.
