Despite the disappointing loss against the Sydney Roosters on Good Friday, nib Newcastle Knights winger Ken Sio maintains his combination with centre Dane Gagai is continuing to grow.

The 26-year-old scored a try in the 45th minute of the match courtesy of his fellow outside back.

“I was lucky enough we got the play we wanted and Dane Gagai did the flick pass and it popped up in the right spot,” Sio told Knights TV in the sheds after Friday’s match.

“We have always been wanting to get the ball early to Dane and he can do his magic, pop up at the right time and hopefully he can score some tries and reward the team.”

Sio believes there were crucial points in the game that needed to be better.

“We can work on them, we’ll work on video and we’ll look at it from there,” said Sio.

“We will be looking at the good stuff and the bad stuff and hopefully bounce back next week against the Cowboys.

“Just our finishes, we need to get higher finishes because we were doing some poor ones out there.

“Execution is one of the biggest points, we’ll be working hard on that and we should bounce back again.”

The Knights winger is adamant that despite the absence of their star player, the Cowboys will still be a force on their home soil.

“(Johnathon) Thurston or not, the Cowboys will still turn up with their A game, it’ll be a tough game but should be sweet,” Sio explained.

The Knights fly to Townsville for their Round 8 clash on Thursday.
