Jacob Gagan was pretty ecstatic to receive the late call up to debut for the nib Newcastle Knights against the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday.

It must have been fate as the 24-year-old lined up against his former Sutherland shire teammates.

“I was pretty familiar with the ground but it was good to get my first run out with the Knights,” Gagan explained.

“I was hoping to get a start and it all happened pretty quickly. I only found out not long before the game started.

“Once I found out, I was pretty stoked to get the opportunity.”

Gagan played the entire 80 minutes and even scored a try in the final 10 minutes of the match.

“I pulled up all good, got through the game injury free so I was all happy with that,” added Gagan.

“I thought I could have done a little bit more but the boys’ effort altogether, I though they did really well.

“It was unfortunate we came up with a one-point loss but we’ll look to next week and hopefully improve and get a win.”

The outside back remains happy with his decision to move further north.

“I knew Newcastle had a great squad but it was a bit more of a chance for me. I got the opportunity to come up and I think the Knights are a great club,” commented Gagan.

“I was happy to move up it’s a great place and I’ve enjoyed it here.”
