The NYC Newcastle Knights fought back from a 12-point deficit at half time to grab a nail-biting 26-22 win against the South Sydney Rabbitohs on the weekend.

A try by fullback Matt Cooper in the back end of the second half took them to within two, as momentum allowed the Knights to overtake the Bunnies and claim their second win for the season.

“Great effort from the boys to keep scoring in the second half and to come away with the win, it was good,” Cooper said in the sheds after the match.

“Our forwards were winning more tackles against the Rabbitohs and everyone was really switched on.”

Cooper admits he had a little bit of help after he crossed the line in the 64th minute.

“I got lucky for that one, it was Tom Starling that set me up,” explained Cooper.

“Tom Starling is always good, he has been killing it this year and Hosko (Zac Hosking) got moved to centre and still killed it, he went well.”

Despite the victory, the NYC fullback said the side can’t rest on their laurels ahead of their Round 4 meeting with the Panthers.

“There’s always stuff to improve on and we’re on again next week so we’ll hopefully improve,” said Cooper.

“It’s away so it would be good to get another win.

“We can always work on defence and there’s a lot of other things we can look to improve on.”
