Rory Kostjasyn has been able to return to the team environment after a throat injury sidelined him two weeks ago.

He still requires surgery, although the swelling in his throat meant he could not have it done immediately.

“We’re just waiting for the swelling to settle down and that’s why we’ve kept him away,” Physical Performance Manager Tony Ayoub told Knights TV.

“At the moment they can’t touch it simply because it’s so swollen.

“If it can settle down then he can have that surgery sooner rather than later.”

Kostjasyn will have a follow up appointment on Wednesday, which should clarify when the operation can be done.

“They’ll have to decide whether they can relocate that dislocated cartilage, or they put an implant in,” Ayoub explained.

“At the moment it’s probably looking like 12 weeks before he can play.”

The group was buoyed by Kostjasyn’s return.

“His leadership skills and his calmness around training are so valuable,” Ayoub said.

“Just keeping him around the group is a boost for him and a boost for the other players.”
