For it’s 30th season on the Sacred Ground of McDonald Jones Stadium, the nib Newcastle Knights has an exciting schedule of games guaranteed to excite fans.

Following the official announcement of the 2017 NRL season’s first 20 rounds, it has been revealed that the Club will take on the Sydney Roosters on Good Friday, host three of last year’s top four teams, plus round out the home season by playing reigning premiers the Cronulla Sharks on Old Boys Day.

McDonald Jones Stadium will also host the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 3 and the Brisbane Broncos on a Saturday evening in Round 19.

“Matches against these clubs always draw strong attendances, and we are delighted to have the 2016 premiers playing in Newcastle on Old Boys Day,” Chief Operating Officer Wendy Carmichael said.

“We will build an entertaining game day experience around this draw which will engage and reward our fans.” Carmichael added.

Of the 12 matches scheduled for McDonald Jones Stadium in 2017, seven will be against teams that made it into the finals last year.

Three matches will be played on Saturday, three on Sunday and two on a Friday, one of those falling on the Good Friday public holiday.

From a football point of view, CEO Matt Gidley said the 2017 draw benefits the players as well.

“As a player you want to test yourself against the best the game has to offer in front of your own fans, and our draw certainly provides that,” Gidley explained.

In addition to the Sharks, Rabbitohs, Broncos and Roosters, the Knights will also host the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Round 6 and an entertaining Penrith Panthers side in Round 11. The schedule is family friendly with a number of weekend afternoon games, and the two Friday evening games will be a must for all Knights fans.

“We’re excited about the season ahead and the Club has made some strong signings this off-season,” Gidley said.

“With the first 20 rounds of the draw finalised, we look forward to sharing 2017 and our 30th year with our fans, Members, corporate partners and sponsors.”
