Chris Adams is back in the red and blue to chase his goal of once again playing in the NRL.
Adams joined the Knights in 2010 and made his NRL debut in 2012. He played three NRL games before returning to the local Newcastle Rugby League competition.
“This is my first day in the red and blue and I’m looking forward to it,” he said following Monday’s recovery session with the fulltime training squad.
“I just have to get through this week and next week and will see how I go.”
Adams earned the chance to join the Knights squad after playing this season with Lakes United.
“If there was going to be an opportunity I wanted to make sure there was going to be a full opportunity for myself,” he said.
“I’m looking to get something out of next year and play my best footy this year and will see how I go.
“I hope to play as many first grade games as I can and earn myself a contract for next year.”
The Bellingen Magpies junior has also taken time away from his full time job working as a telecommunication technician to pursue his dream.
“My job is on hold and whatever happens I’m welcome to go back there,” he said.
“I’m grateful that my work can do that for me and can give me time off and that I can come back whenever.”
Since playing with the Knights four years ago, he’s flourished in the local competition with highlights of captaining the Newcastle Rebels in the Country Rugby League Championship as well as winning the premiership with Lakes United in 2015.
After being released from the Knights in 2013, 29-year-old Adams admits he never imagined he’d get another shot to play first grade for the Club, so is driven to make the most of the opportunity.
“I just went back to local league and wanted to play footy the best I could,” he said.
“Playing Country was a massive achievement for myself and to come back here, I didn’t think it was going to happen, especially at the age I am now.”
