The Newcastle Knights’ Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams have both made it through to the finals of their respective competitions after outstanding 2016 seasons.

The SG Ball Knights were named minor premiers last weekend, winning seven of their eight games and conceding an average of only 15 points.

Meanwhile the Harold Matthews team came third, also winning seven of their eight games and finishing their season with a points differential of 199.

“We’re very proud of the players as well as the support staff that put so much time and effort in,” Newcastle Knights CEO Matt Gidley said.

“The fact that these two teams came first and third in their respective competitions this year again underlines how bright the future of our Club is.”

The SG Ball side contained many of the players that won the Under 16s National title in 2014, and were untouchable for much of the 2016 season.

They won two of their matches by more than 30 points, and one by an incredible 60 points.

The Harold Matthews team was equally impressive, beating the Western Sydney Academy 76-0 in Round 7 and defeating the North Sydney Bears by 54 points in Round 3.

“We are very proud of the junior results so far this season,” Player List Manager, Troy Pezet said.

“It is testament to the hard work from the players, staff and parents over a long period of time.

“Being a development Club, it is important that our local juniors have an environment where they can develop into the best players and best people possible.”

Both sides kick off their finals series this weekend at St Mary’s Stadium in Sydney. The Harold Matthew Knights take on the Cronulla Sharks at 1pm, while the SG Ball Knights play the South Sydney Rabbitohs at 2.30pm.
