It’s been an injury plagued few months for Jack Stockwell, but the Newcastle Knights forward is now excited to join the Newcastle Knights in camp in Melbourne ahead of Round 5.

Despite being named in the reserve grade squad for round five, Stockwell hopes to return to NRL action this Saturday against Melbourne Storm.

Stockwell has been sidelined since the Knights' trial match against the Canberra Raiders in Orange, where he suffered a shoulder injury.

After a setback during rehabilitation, he returned for his first match of the season with the reserve grade Knights against the Wentworthville Magpies last Sunday.

“There was a small rotator cuff tear and some tendinitis in the tendon as well. That’s why it has been so slow to heal so it was my first game back on the weekend,” he said before departing Knights HQ on Tuesday.

“I’m pretty stoked to get the call to go down there.

“Me and a few of the boys are heading down there to Melbourne today.

“It will be good to get back into camp with all the boys and see everyone.”

Sunday’s match was the ideal return for Stockwell with the reserve grade side recording an impressive first win of the season against an undefeated opponent.

“All the boys played really well and we stuck it to them for the whole 80 minutes,” he said.

“In the first half they got a couple of unlucky tries and we were down 14 nil and we ended up coming back 22-14.

“The boys really rallied in that second half.

“We were on top of the leader board and had won three from three and we had one none from three so it was good for the boys to come back.”
