Newcastle Knights forward Korbin Sims is looking forward to Saturday night's trial match against the Canberra Raiders at Orange's Wade Park.

The trial gives Sims the first chance to run out in the second row.

"I am starting in a new position, in the second row, I have been training there over the pre-season," Sims said after training on Friday at Wade Park.

"In the second row, with the interchange dropping down, it is going to be an 80 minute game and that is what I have to work on."

The trial match also provides an opportunity for the 25-man squad to secure a spot in the final 17 when the premiership season kicks off in two weeks.

"We have been working hard over the pre-season... it is all leading up to this trial and we are looking forward to getting out there," Sims added.

Both teams have named strong line-ups for the match at Wade Park.

"We are more focused on how we go as a team rather than the result, but if we work well as a team then the result will come our way," Sims said.

The trial match kicks off at 6.30pm. Tickets are still available online or at the gate. A live stream of the match will be available at newcastleknights.com.au from 6.30pm.
