Newcastle Knights Nathan Ross, Sione Mata'utia and Tariq Sims visited Cadia Valley Operations, a gold mine near Orange, while in the region for a pre-season trial match sponsored by NSW Mining.

Cadia Valley Operations is the largest underground mine in Australia and produces around 680 ounces of copper gold each year.

The players were given the opportunity to visit the site and take part in a question and answer session with more than 200 miners at the end of their shift.

Sims, Ross and Mata'utia then mingled with the mine's staff at an informal breakfast event which allowed the employees to get to know the players.

The Newcastle Knights will proudly wear their high vis NSW Mining jersey in Saturday's trial match against the Canberra Raiders. The team looks forward to seeing plenty of support from the mining community in the crowd at Wade Park.
