Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown says his side is ready for the final hit out before the 2016 premiership season gets underway in just over two weeks.

With the Knights and the Canberra Raiders naming extended squads, both sides have strong line-ups for the Wade Park clash.

"I have spoken to Ricky (Stuart) and they are taking it serious," Brown said.

"So while we both have large squads, you will see the first half more like a competition game."

A number of players got game time at the Auckland Nines as well as in the NSW Cup trial last weekend, however this is the first and final match before the season gets underway.

"We have a very young squad, it is a long and tough year, and we feel this is the best approach and we are quite comfortable with where we are at," Brown added.

The trial match against the Canberra Raiders, which will be live streamed on newcastleknights.com.au, will be the final chance for players to secure a round one spot.

"They have all trained really well over the off season and we are looking forward to seeing who cements a spot for round one," Brown said.

The Knights arrived in Orange on Wednesday, with a number of community visits scheduled on Thursday before Friday's final training run at Wade Park.
