Newcastle Knights prop Sam Mataora just can’t wait for Sunday’s NSW Cup Grand Final against the Wyong Roos.

"Every one is calm and pretty happy,” the forward said at training on Thursday.

“I’m pretty excited for the game this week and so I can’t wait for it.”

The frustration of last year’s NSW Cup grand final loss to the Penrith Panthers provides the Knights with added motivation for this weekend's match at Pirtek Stadium.

“Last year, it was a pretty disappointing game, so we have a second chance this year and hopefully we can go all the way,” Matoara added.

"This year is the same vibe as last year. Everyone gets along with each other, it’s been good.”

Sunday’s encounter against the Roos is the third time the two sides meet this season, with Wyong holding a two-nil advantage.

“The key will be to hold the ball and hopefully tire them out,” Mataora said.

“That’s what we’ve been doing the last couple of weeks and it’s worked, so we look to do the same.”
