Newcastle Knights hooker Chad Redman has been released from his contract to join another Club, effective immediately.

Redman has progressed through the Knights system and made a memorable debut in Round 10 this season when he scored the match-winning try.

“This was a difficult decision for the Club however we have agreed based on what is best for Chad,” Director of Football Michael Hagan said.

“With good depth in the hooking role, along with the emergence of Under 20s hooker Danny Levi, the Club did not want to deny Chad the opportunity to play consistent NRL in the future.

“Chad has been an exceptional and popular team member and he leaves with our very best wishes.”

Redman, who advised his teammates on Tuesday morning of his decision, has valued his time at the Knights.

“I just want to thank the Newcastle Knights staff, players and fans for all they have done for me over the years,” Redman said on Tuesday afternoon.

“I got to live out one of my childhood dreams this year when I made my debut and I will be forever grateful for that.

“It is bittersweet to be leaving but I am leaving for the opportunity to play NRL and I am excited about that.

“I wish everyone at the Club all the best and hope it is a successful end to the season.”

Management continues to work on the player roster before the June 30 deadline and beyond.
