With Round 1 seeing the return of the 1988 Newcastle Knights team to Hunter Stadium, Knights TV has dusted off the old highlights reels from the Club's inaugural year in the NSWRL competition.

While the 1988 Knights didn't have the greatest win/loss ratio, they succeeded overwhelmingly in other parts of the game.

The Club averaged 21,000 fans per game, and more than 30,000 supporters attended the Broncos game in Newcastle when a young Wayne Bennett was enjoying his first year in charge of the Brisbane club.

In 1988 the Knights also built the foundations upon which their reputation has been based ever since - a team that will never give up.
