With the Newcastle Knights’ season opener on Saturday, enforcer Beau Scott says the squad has launched into preparation for Saturday's match against the New Zealand Warriors.
“Personally I turned up today knowing we’re on this weekend and I think that was the vibe around the place,” Scott told the media after Monday’s training session.
“I have a couple of weeks under my belt so personally I’m looking forward to getting out onto the football paddock and getting some conditioning under my belt.
“Everyone is excited to get the first game on the way this weekend.
“I guess the first couple of rounds of the year are about holding the ball and having the least penalties is probably our focus for this weekend.
“If we can complete our sets, I think we’ll be a fair chance of getting the job done.”
When it comes to proving the strength of the Knights’ pack this season, Scott believes it comes down to action.
“We’ll have to go out there, put our hands up and get the job done, and I guess that will silence the critics,” he admitted.
Following the departure of a few of the Knights’ forwards at the end of 2014, he believes players like Kade Snowden have already stepped up to the plate.
“Kade has had a really good pre-season and played really strongly for us in the trials,” he said.
“I can’t see a reason why he won’t take that into the first couple of weeks.”
After an incredible 2014 season which saw him captain the Country Origin side, play all three games for NSW Origin and gain selection in the Australian Kangaroos Four Nations side, the 30-year-old aims to carry that form into this season.
But for now, it’s all about the Knights identifying what works well on the field and sticking to their formulated game plan.
“I took it as it come last year and I guess my number one goal is to play good football for the Knights and you get picked in the rep team on the back of that,” he concluded. When it comes to proving the strength of the Newcastle Knights’ pack this season, veteran forward Beau Scott says it will all come down to action.
