Newcastle Knights fan Cyril didn't get to see his team win at Barlow Park on Sunday, but it was a dream come true to meet the team and see them play.

Cyril and his family traveled from Doomadgee to Cairns, spending approximately 16 hours in transit.

He has always supported the Knights but hasn't ever had the chance to see them play. In fact, being at Barlow Park was just his second game of NRL.

"Meeting the team and seeing them play, it is something I will never forget," Cyril told Knights TV.

Coach Wayne Bennett fully supported taking an NRL game to a regional area.

"It excites me," coach Wayne Bennett said after Sunday's loss.

"It is great for the game, the interest that it creates up in these areas.

"You kind of forget how big Cairns is, and places like Mackay along the coast here.

"It generates a lot of enthusiasm and I think it’s a great move by the game."

The Knights thank the people of Cairns and surrounding areas for their support during the Club's stay.
