The Newcastle Knights has mixed news in regards to injuries leading into Friday night's game against the Sydney Roosters at Hunter Stadium.

Forward Chris Houston, who was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Gold Coast Titans, had surgery on his knee on Monday and will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

Scan results for winger James McManus and captain Kurt Gidley were better than first anticipated.

McManus, who also missed Sunday's game, remains a week-to-week proposition due to ongoing toe soreness. Scan results showed no new damage and he will be assessed later in the week.

Gidley, who missed the second half of Sunday's game, has a low-grade adductor injury. He hasn't been named for Friday's game.

Meanwhile Darius Boyd, who had a head knock in Sunday's game, cleared the concussion protocols on Monday.
