For the Knights Dave Fa’alogo, playing in front of the big crowd at the RiseForAlex game and experiencing the community’s support for his teammate is an occasion he will always remember.

“It’s not the result we wanted, but it’s a great day for Alex and for everyone to come out and to support Alex,” he told the media on Monday morning.

“It was a great crowd and to run out and see all that red and blue, it was awesome.

“We were all happy for Alex, to see him back in Newcastle, his place, and just to be around the boys.

“It was a huge occasion and at the end of the day, our execution was off and we didn’t give ourselves a chance to win the game and that’s the way it was all game.

Although overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, Fa’alogo said he anticipated the community would be right behind the cause because of the inspiring way Alex has dealt with his injury and recovery.

“I’m not surprised, it’s a rugby league town that’s what we were sort of expecting.

“It’s great to see the fans out there,” he added.

He said a similar comeback to last round’s game against the Sharks was in the back of their minds, but the team couldn’t come up with the goods on the day.

“We just need to complete our sets and get in the game, and we found it hard to do that.

“It was just a matter of completing our sets and getting to kick and we just didn’t do it.

“We didn’t give ourselves any chance.

Fa’alogo said the team is now focused on moving forward and redeeming their performance at Friday’s game against the Roosters at Hunter Stadium.

“It’s always a big test against the Roosters but we’re playing back in town again and that’s great for us, he said.”

“I always love playing against the Roosters.

“They’ve got a big pack and we just have to step up again,” he said.
