The Newcastle Knights are mourning the loss of Ross Gigg, who suddenly passed away overnight.

Gigg played the majority of his rugby league career with the Penrith Panthers, spending more than ten years at the Club before retiring in 1984. Gigg has most recently been the General Manager of the Newcastle Harness Racing Club.

"The Club would like to pass on its sincere condolences to Ross's family Linda, Jason and Hayley following his recent passing," CEO Matt Gidley said.

"Ross was a major contributor to rugby league and will be missed by many."

The Knights will wear black armbands in Sunday’s game and a minute’s silence will be held prior to kick off at Hunter Stadium.
