Speaking on arrival back in Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon, coach Wayne Bennett said the entire Club were saddened by Alex McKinnon's injury.
The coach stressed the 22-year old Aberdeen junior was in the best possible care in a hospital in Melbourne.
"It’s sad and we are extremely disappointed for him," Bennett said.
"He is getting the best care now and we are giving him all the support we can possibly give him.
"After that we just have to hope for the best for him."
