Newcastle Knights CEO Matt Gidley says the Club will immediately start their search to replace prop Russell Packer, who had his employment terminated on Monday.

"We'll go out and look for a replacement for Russell for 2014," Gidley said.

"Being this late in the season, most teams have their squads pretty settled at the moment, but we’ll be out there in the market place looking at who can come in and fit the type of player we need for our Club.”

The Knights have a number of options to consider in both the NRL and English Super League when looking for a potential front-row replacement for Packer.

Gidley admits 'everything is an option at this stage', while confirming their will be no deadline on a final decision for a new player.

“We’ll sit down our recruitment team and we’ll discuss what options are out there and see what is the best fit for our club," he added.

“Then we’ll make the relevant approaches.”
