The Carroll family is set to enjoy an amazing 2014 Knights season after winning Kurt Gidley and Chris Houston’s family Membership Challenge.
Aaron Carroll and his four-year-old son, Bryce, had a chance to meet their Newcastle Knights heroes at the Members’ Christmas barbecue held in late December.
The pair met and chatted to the players after a training session, with Bryce most excited by the opportunity to meet his favourite player, winger James McManus.
“I grew up watching all these guys. To meet all the boys like this, especially when you get to have a chat to them, for a fan like me, it really is unreal,” Aaron said.
“And for a young fellow like Bryce, I think this is something he will remember for the rest of his life.”
Aaron said he has been a dedicated Knights supporter for 23 years.
He first noticed the Knights challenge on Twitter because Jessica, his partner is a massive fan of Kurt Gidley and Chris Houston.
She soon organised the family picture to show Gidley and Houston the family's passion for the team.
“Jessica started following the Knights when we started dating, now she’s just as bad as I am,” Aaron laughed.
The Carroll’s make it to as many Knights games as they can manage throughout the season, but say the chance to attend without having to pay will be amazing for their young family.
The early Christmas present was a boost to the family’s spirits after a challenging year.
Their young daughter, Mackenzie, was born with hip dysplasia and underwent an operation during the year to treat the condition.
“She’s been in a full cast for a while, but after she’s out of that, the doctors say it should be okay,” Aaron explained.
“Out of the four of us, I was probably the most excited when we found we had won. I’ve never won anything like this before,” he said.
“It means a lot to the whole family. Our spirits have picked up. It’s unreal.”
