Hunter Stadium, formerly known as Ausgrid Stadium/Energy Australia Stadium is the centrepiece of the Hunter Venues sports precinct. Originally known as the International Sports Centre, it was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 10th of April 1970. In 1992, local tyre outlet Marathon Tyres became the naming rights sponsor for the stadium, and it was renamed Marathon Stadium, which lasted until 2001 when energy supplier Energy Australia took over the naming rights.
