Top 10 try scorers in Knights history

Nothing beats the roar of a stadium after a player finds the try-line.

It's what puts bums on seats and eyes on the television.

Over the history of the nib Newcastle Knights, there has been some incredible players who could score a four-pointer.

Here is the top 10 try scorers in Knights history... so far.

#10 - Darren Albert

Coming in at 10th is Grand Final hero Darren Albert with 65 tries in 89 games for Newcastle.

He arguably lays claim to the most significant try in the Club's history having scored the match-winning try with seconds remaining in the 1997 decider.

The dashing winger also holds a joint-record for most tries in a game with four against the Tigers in 2000.

#9 - Mark Hughes

Fan favourite, Mark Hughes comes in at ninth, pipping Albert by a sole try.

Hughes scored 66 tries in his 161 games for Newcastle.

The one-club man and two-time premiership winner was an integral player during the Knights successful years.

#8 - Matt Gidley

Renowned for his try-assist labelled 'The Gidley Flick', Matt also knew how to find the stripe himself.

Gidley scored 68 tries in his 221 games for Newcastle throughout a highly-decorated career.

Another one-club player, Gidley was named in the centres in the Knights Team of the Era (1988-2017) and was an inaugural inductee of the Knights Hall of Fame.

#7 - James McManus

The Flying Scotsman comes in at seventh.

McManus scored 72 tries in his 166 games for Newcastle.

The former winger also holds the joint-record for most tries in a game with four against the Titans in 2013.

#6 - Robbie O'Davis

The Clive Churchill medallist of the famous 1997 Grand Final, Robbie O'Davis comes in at sixth.

O'Davis scored 78 tries in his 223 games for Newcastle.

Robbie O' memorably scored two of those in a man-of-the-match display in the '97 decider.

#4 - Kurt Gidley

A Knight through-and-through, Kurt Gidley comes in at equal fourth.

Gidley scored 80 tries in his 251 games.

In a career spanning 15 seasons, Gidley had one of the all-time great careers in the red and blue.

#4 - Andrew Johns

The Eighth Immortal comes in at equal fourth.

Johns scored 80 tries in his 249 games for the Knights.

Adding to his extensive list of accomplishments, Johns also holds the joint-record for most tries in a game with four against the Raiders in 2001.

#3 - Adam MacDougall

'The Mad Dog' is the first onto the try scorers podium, coming in at third.

Across his two stints with the Club, MacDougall scored 87 tries in 158 games.

MacDougall also scored four tries in a game, nothing the feat against the Warriors in 2001.

#2 - Timana Tahu

A game-breaking winger on his day, Timana Tahu comes in at second.

Across his two stints with the Club, Tahu scored 93 tries from only 126 games.

Tahu also scored the match-sealer in the 2001 Grand Final.

#1 - Akuila Uate

Coming in at first and the Club's leading try scorer is Akuila Uate.

A powerful winger with speed to burn, Uate notched an incredible 110 tries in 161 games for Newcastle.

A three-time Dally M winger of the Year in his time at Newcastle, Uate's try scoring feats are currently unmatched.
