The board of The Wests Group is pleased to confirm that it has officially finalised the acquisition of the Newcastle Knights.

The board would like to thank the NRL and outgoing Knights CEO Matt Gidley for their assistance over the past months, and the work to prepare the team for the new season continues.

The acquisition coincided with the Club's first day at pre-season training on Wednesday, promptimg media to ask coach Nathan Brown about the transition.

“The way Wests has been built over the years means they can provide a lot of stability," Brown responded.

“I think for the first time in the Club’s history, we’re very financially stable.

“In terms of what Wests can provide in off-field stability, it’s a great time to be a part of the Knights.

“Where they’re really going to help us is in infrastructure, and in helping us keep our local juniors.”
