Over the next week the Club continues to farewell the departing players of 2017 by looking back over their time at the Knights.

The Club farewells Sam Mataora, who joined the nib Newcastle Knights in 2015.

The 26-year-old forward retired midway through the 2017 season after 63 NRL appearances.

In 2016, Mataora made 20 NRL appearances for the Knights before spending the majority of the 2017 season in Reserve Grade with one NRL game against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Mataora began his career at the Canberra Raiders where he made his debut against the New Zealand Warriors in 2010.

He also played international football and first represented the Cook Island in 2009, including at the World Cup in 2013, with his last appearance this year. Mataora was a Junior Kiwi in 2010.

Sam lived in the Cook Islands until he was 11-years-old before moving to Brisbane.
