Taking on the captaincy for the NYC Newcastle Knights this year, Zac Hosking admits it has added a little bit of extra motivation.
“I love leading the boys out every week, it gives me that extra bit of motivation to work that little bit harder and to set the example for the rest of the boys,” said Hosking.
“The captaincy role is something I value very much and it’s an honour.”
It seems the leadership role has sat well with the 20-year-old, who took out the NYC Player of the Year award at the Club’s presentation night on Thursday.
“There were a lot of blokes it could have gone to but I am stoked to take away the Player of the Year award, it’s awesome,” commented Hosking.
Hosking had the number 13 jersey locked down for most of the 2017 season and rated 12th in the competition for tackles, at an impressive 705.
“I didn’t know that and I have missed a few games with injury,” he stated.
“It is probably what I do most in the game, thankfully I have been noticed for it.”
The NYC captain will now have to lead his teammates in their semi-finals hunt, up against the Brisbane Broncos at Allianz Stadium.
“Coming off a good win from the Sharks, we’re taking some confidence into the game,” Hosking said.
“The Broncos are a quality side, they touched us up last time so we’ve done our homework and we’ve prepared well.”
Kick-off for the Knights v Broncos is at 5.15pm Friday.
