As the nib Newcastle Knights prepare for Saturday's match against the St George Illawarra Dragons, co-captain Sione Mata’utia says the team took a lot of confidence out of their last encounter.

Despite losing their way in the match, Mata’utia maintains they showed how they can play as an effective unit.

“You take a lot of positive indicators out of that game,” he said on Friday.

“We are looking to get one back and trying to get a win and that’s the main thing.

“They are pushing to play some good footy so it’s going to be a good contest out there.”

The Knights forward said they have put in a solid week of preparations and are ready for the clash.

“We have had a great week again so that’s where all our confidence and our belief comes from,” Mata’utia commented.

“We can’t help what has happened in the past, we can only fix the future and tomorrow is going to be our day to try and change it.”

The 21-year-old admits results this season have been tough to take but is optimistic another win isn’t far away.

“The disappointing thing is that we’re doing it to ourselves, we’re not far from a win and we can smell it but we seem to be shooting ourselves in the foot,” Mata’utia stated.

The Knights co-captain has also welcomed recent signings to the Club for next year including Tautau Moga, Herman Ese’ese, Connor Watson and Aiden Guerra.

“It is exciting to hear some good signings and all the new developments, it is definitely exciting news for the future,” added Mata’utia.

“When you hear a good signing, you get a bit revved up about it so credit to the Club, they’ve made some good recruitment decisions.”

The Knights take on the Dragons at McDonald Jones Stadium, kick-off is at 3pm this Saturday.
