This Saturday will be the first time that new recruit Shaun Kenny-Dowall gets to run out in the blue and red jersey in front of a boisterous home crowd.
Already having playing plenty of football at McDonald Jones Stadium, Kenny-Dowall admits it will be a special occasion to run out as a Knight.
“It is a beautiful stadium and I am really looking forward to running out there in front of the home fans,” he said.
“It is always a tough game but the fans really do turn out in numbers and they’re a vocal crowd.
“They love there rugby league up here, a one team town and they really get behind the Knights.
“I'm looking forward to putting on the red and blue jumper for the first time.”
The outside back made his Club debut against his former side last week and says it was great to be back playing the game he loves.
“It was pretty emotional but in saying that I just tried to concentrate on what I came here to do, put in a good performance for the team and do my job as best as I could," he said.
Kenny-Dowall, who recorded three tackles break, 82 metres ran with the ball and a try, said he is slowly getting back his match fitness.
“Timing and fitness you can only get through game time and being out on the field,” Kenny-Dowall explained.
“I am definitely feeling better for having that run.
“You can’t replace game fitness so it was really good to get the first run out of the way and I’m feeling better prepared for tomorrow night’s game.
“I have prepared really well, I’ve had a full week of training and I’m mentally prepared.”
The 29-year-old expects to mark fellow Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale, who scored a hat-trick against the Knights last time they met.
“We have had some good battles over the years,” smiled Kenny-Dowall.
“He is a good friend of mine so I always look forward to coming up against him.”
Three grades are in action at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday. NYC kick-off at 10.45pm, before ISP at 12.40pm and NRL at 3pm.
