It was a tough job for the forwards on Friday night against a dominant Sydney Roosters pack, but their efforts didn’t go unnoticed with praise from nib Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown.

Forward Daniel Saifiti, who managed 132 run metres with the ball in 53 minutes, said it was tough slog out on the field.

“We were missing Jacob (Saifiti) and Josh Starling, two of our bigger forwards so I had to play longer minutes in the middle there for the boys,” Saifiti explained.

“The Roosters are big all over the park and it was hard when we tried to get momentum.”

Saifiti felt they struggled to contain the second placed Roosters with a number of costly mistakes.

“We made crucial errors and crucial penalties late in the tackle count and we weren’t helping ourselves out there,” said Saifiti.

“In the first half, we had equal possession and we needed to have that 50/50 possession against such a great team.

“When the game was tight, we just came up with crucial mistakes at the wrong times and it cost us the game.”

The 21-year-old said it’s now back to the drawing board for their Round 21 clash with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

“We have another tough game next week but we’ll do our review, fix up this week and focus on the Dragons,” he said.
