The NYC Newcastle Knights were defeated 44-22 by the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Friday afternoon.

A slow start for the Knights to trail by ten into the first break and the scoring assault continued as the Roosters piled on 28 points in the second stanza.

The first try of the afternoon came in the sixth minute with a cut-away pass to the Roosters number three Kiah Cooper, who made an easy run to the line. Sean O’Sullivan successful on the conversion for the home side to lead 6-0.

18 minutes in, forward Sitili Tupouniua muscled his way to the line for the Roosters second before a penalty on the line gave the knights a fresh set and a sneaky off-load by Tom Starling guided centre Heath Gibbs to the line in the 25th minute.

Kurtis Dark nailed the kick for the Knights to trail 12-6.

In the 28th minute, an unlucky kick rebound landed in the hands of Sydney’s Adam Pompey for their third to stretch their lead to 16-6 before halftime.

In the second half, O’Sullivan rolled through the pack to put it down 44 minutes in before converting his own try. The Roosters lead 22-6.

Sydney’s Pompey got the double minutes later and the points kept coming as O’Sullivan found an easy gap in defence to dive over in the 51st minute. The Roosters took the lead to 32-6.

The Knights get their second via Will Finau in the 54th minute, who wrestled his way to the line before out on the left wing, forward Sam McIntyre slid over for another. The Knights close the gap to trail 32-16.

The Roosters were able to keep finding the line, this time Josh Curran crashed over in the 62nd minute and ten minutes later it was Jesse Marschke to add to the tally. The Roosters blow out their lead 44-16.

A late one for the Knights came via Matthew Croker in the 75th minute but the Roosters recorded a dominant win, 44-22.
