Despite a loss in the final minutes against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on Sunday, nib Newcastle Knights forward Lachlan Fitzgibbon thinks there were several positives to come out of the match.
“All the boys are a bit disappointed in what happened at the back end of the game, but there was 78 minutes of good footy which I think is a bonus,” said Fitzgibbon.
“Up to the 78th minute, we played some very good footy... so there were good signs and some luck didn’t go our way in the last two minutes which was a deciding factor in the game.”
The 23-year-old also acknowledged there were a number of areas in Sunday’s game that could have been better.
“It is the same story in the last few games that we’ve lost, it hasn’t been one decision that has won or lost us the game,” Fitzgibbon commented.
“It has been a number of areas which we can continue to work on and get better on.
“We are lucky enough that there’s a game on next week and we’re back at home against a good side in the (Brisbane) Broncos.
“We hope to put in a good performance and hope to get the two points.”
Fitzgibbon said the players have rallied around teammate Brock Lamb, following a missed penalty goal after the siren.
“He was obviously disappointed after the game,” stated Fitzgibbon.
“Myself and all of the boys thought Brock had a really good game and we all got around him and he’s doing well.
“It’s a learning curve for us.”
Meanwhile the Knights forward admits as he racks up more NRL games, confidence in his form is rising.
“I am only 12 or 13 games into my NRL career and over the last six weeks, I’ve started to feel a lot more comfortable in that position and playing 80 minutes,” Fitzgibbon explained.
“As a team we’re moving forward and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
