Just a few weeks back from injury, young Jack Cogger earned a starting spot in the Reserve Grade side on Sunday afternoon.

“It's been a while since I've been up in the ISP team, but it was good to get a win in the first game back,” Cogger said.

“I was pretty lucky, I had the two games in the 20s and then played ISP on the weekend, so hopefully I can continue to play some consistent football.”

The 19-year-old, who underwent pelvis stabilising surgery and repair of a sports hernia after round one, played a commanding role at five-eighth in the win against Illawarra on Sunday.

“We started pretty well, we did fall away at times but the second half we were really strong and held that for the full 40,” Cogger commented.

“All the boys stuck to the game plan and the result showed.”

An added bonus was a try in the 50th minute, thanks to a pin-point pass from fullback Nick Meaney.

“That was my first try of the year, so it wasn’t too bad,” smiled Cogger.

“I'm starting to get those combinations with the guys inside and outside me which will work in the coming weeks.

“I want to play good footy week in, week out and if I do that things will take care of themselves.”

Cogger believes consistency is the key to securing not just more wins for ISP, but for the Club’s three grades.

“The thing for the whole Club at the moment and with all grades is consistency,” he said.

“Simon (Woolford) has said that in my defence and attack, I need to get that consistency throughout games so that’s what I’ll be working on.”

While the young half is slowly getting back to his former match fitness, he’s thankful for the experience around him.

“It is good when you have guys around you that have played awhile in ISP and there are a lot of guys that have played NRL... so the experience around helps,” Cogger explained.

“It's good to have Hokko (Trent Hodkinson) playing halfback, playing outside him.

“He has got a wealth of experience and I take anything from him I can get.

“Whether it be watching how he plays or if he gives me any tips, I am going to take that on board.”
