nib Newcastle Knights Lachlan Fitzgibbon says it was a special moment to defeat the Canberra Raiders at home as the forward recorded his first win in eight NRL games.

“Everyone dug deep for each other,” said Fitzgibbon.

“There has been a big focus on starting the second half on the back of last week when we went into half time in the lead.

“It was good to come home strong.”

In his first NRL game for the season, Fitzgibbon played the full 80 minutes.

“It was my first 80-minute NRL game without having a rest and my knee was a bit sore but I pulled through and should be ok,” said Fitzgibbon.

The 23-year-old said he enjoyed playing in front of a home crowd for Indigenous Round.

“It is a great round and a great initiative,” explained Fitzgibbon.

“Even better on Mother’s Day, and I’m sure all mothers were very proud.”

The Knights are home again next week, hoping for redemption against the Penrith Panthers.

“They are a good side so hopefully get the win,” Fitzgibbon said.
