Fullback Brendan Elliot is confident the nib Newcastle Knights have prepared well for their clash against the North Queensland Cowboys and is looking for an upset win in Townsville on Saturday.

“We are just trying to build on each performance each week and we’ve come up here confident and ready to go,” said Elliot.

While the Knights have just the one win so far in 2017, the Knights number one believes success is just around the corner.

“We are close but just shy of the win,” explained Elliot.

“If we keep building on our performances from each week, we’ll get there.

“They are down a few key players and if we start strong in attack through the middle and hone our defence, we’ll have some success."

Elliot also admits it will be an intriguing contest between himself and future Knight Kalyn Ponga.

“Coming up against Kalyn Ponga, I’m just going to try and do my best for the team,” he said.

“We haven’t picked out anyone to target, we are going to stick to our sets and play through the middle.”

Kick off is at 5.30pm at 1300SMILES Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
