nib Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown and captain Trent Hodkinson spoke to the media following Friday night's loss to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

The Knights went in to the break with a 6-4 lead, but were denied twice by the video referee in the second half for the Bulldogs to run away with a 22-10 win.

While disappointed, the coach refused to use it as an excuse.

"There's certainly some areas of the game where we're not getting favourable calls," Brown said.

"That happens when you are an underdog every week.

"The players aren't getting any calls at the moment - we got none last week and we certainly got none today.

"At the end of the day, my biggest concern is what we can do better.’’

Dane Gagai was a standout with 194m and two line breaks.

The Knights are back at home in Round 7, hosting the Sydney Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium on Good Friday.
