At the top of the ladder in the Harold Matthews and with one game left for the season, the Knights Under 16s side is leading the charge into finals footy.
This year being not their only success, the youngest Knights squad a regular in the final series.
Last year the Under 16s reached the Grand Final but in a close encounter lost to the Parramatta Eels, the side also took home the cup as premiers in 2014.
Coach Mark Morrissey said he’s been impressed with the dedication they have shown this year.
“They are a bunch of kids that have worked really hard and bought into what we’re trying to do, coached through the Club’s principles,” said Morrissey.
“They have really worked hard for each other and they’re doing really well.
“Hopefully they continue to work hard and get the rewards.”
This Saturday, the juniors will take on the Western Suburbs Magpies who are currently sitting in 16th spot.
“We are resting a few players this week, we’ve had a tough little period where we had three games in seven days last week so we’re mindful of their petrol levels,” explained Morrissey.
“We’re going to attack them differently whilst giving some boys some rest.”
The junior coach believes their success can be put down to a few things but in particular.
“We really worked hard this year on discipline,” Morrissey commented.
“At this level, if you make errors you certainly get points on you, so we worked hard around the ruck and winning the ruck.
“They have got the results that they’ve worked hard for.”
Morrissey says he’s now keen to transition the team into finals footy.
“We did get there last year and I have learned a lot from that but this year is a new team,” he said.
Meanwhile the Knights’ junior under 18s will also finish their season this weekend in the SG Ball, against the Western Suburbs Magpies.
Both sides play at Cessnock Sport Ground this Saturday, with the Under 16s kicking off at 12.45pm before the Under 18s at 2.15pm.
