Coach Nathan Brown and captain Trent Hodkinson spoke to the media following Saturday's 19-18 loss to the Cronulla Sharks at Southern Cross Group Stadium.
The Knights coach admits his side has certainly improved from last year, but that now needs to equate to more wins on the board.
“We understand we’ve got to come up with a good defensive effort each week,” Brown said.
“When we get in situations where we have close games, we have to learn to win them."
Brown maintains despite the big loss in Round 4, they bounced back well against the Sharks.
“They’re one of the best teams in the comp, they won the grand final last year,” he said.
“They’ve got a lot of good football players in their team and to keep turning up for each other was really good.
“Unfortunately we weren’t quite good enough and the challenge now is to turn up against Canterbury and put ourselves in that position again and then do a little better.”
Captain Trent Hodkinson agreed it was a tough match but there was fight to stay in it.
“We didn’t switch off, our scramble defence was great, we wanted to remain in the game and we didn’t let it blow out like last week,” Hodkinson added.
“We wanted to fight and they did really well, very proud of the boys’ efforts.
“We gained some confidence out of that so it was a win.”
The Knights return home in Round 6 and take on the Bulldogs on Friday night.
