Scans have confirmed nib Newcastle Knights fullback Dylan Phythian has re-ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Phythian was forced from the field in the second half of Sunday’s match at Mt Smart Stadium.

The 21-year old, who will undergo surgery in the next week, will be unavailable for the 2017 season.

“Another year that wasn't meant to be, off to rebuild the knee and be back bigger and stronger next year,” Phythian said on Twitter on Tuesday.
