Newcastle Knights' Jamie Buhrer, Peter Mata’utia and Josh Starling attended the annual John Hunter Children’s Hospital Christmas party on Thursday.

Starting off with some games in the Starlight Room, the players then visited the Adolescent Ward, the Oncology and Surgical Ward, the Children’s Medical Ward and the Oncology Haematology Day Unit.

It was Buhrer and Starling’s first visit to the hospital.

“A lot of people are doing it hard at the moments, so it’s good to come here, say hello and give a few things out,” Starling told Knights TV.

“These kids are in here all day, so it’s good to give them a little bit of joy.”

The players gave out some merchandise and provided autographs for the children, and Mata’utia even participated in a dance-off in the Starlight Room.

“Pete was terrible,” Starling said with a grin.

“My little mate Max had a good go and he won the day for us.”

Mata’utia was following up from a visit to the Ronald McDonald House last week with the Mata’utia Brothers Foundation, and saw some of the families that he had already met across the road.

“Some of these kids are going to spend their Christmas here,” Mata’utia said.

“So whatever help we can give as a team is great.”
