Newcastle Knight Brendan Elliot says he and his teammates continue to push for improvement as the team approaches the final matches of the season.

The team returned to Knights HQ on Monday morning to review Saturday’s match against the Gold Coast Titans as the side builds for this weekend’s hit-out against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“There were a few negative things, definitely from the first half with some easy tries that they scored,” he said about the Round 24 review.

“I think there are still a few positives to come out of it and we are going to try to build in this coming into this weekend.

“There was definitely a positive when the Saifiti boys (Jacob and Daniel) came on and they really lifted the forward pack and everyone around them lifted as well.

“Once they came on they (Titans) didn’t score for another 40 or so minutes.

“We are going to try to bring that into this week as well.”

According to Elliot, a major motivator for the young team is to perform well for the Club’s Members and supporters.

“We still have this home game coming up and we’d love to get a win in front of a home crowd and for the supporters," he said.

“We are definitely trying to grow each day. There are only two weeks left but we are trying to improve and bring home the season strong for us personally and to put us in good stead for the pre-season.”

Turning attention to this weekend opposition, Elliot expects the South Sydney Rabbitohs to present a solid test.

“They will be a big, strong side especially with the Burgess boys in the middle and (Greg) Inglis there,” he said.

“They will definitely just try to beat us through the middle.

“We are going to have to tighten up and hopefully the Saifiti boys can bring what they did on the weekend and we’ll really stick it to them."

Elliot also hopes to contribute to the side’s improvement by strengthening his game on the wing.

“Each week I try to improve. When I got here, my carries weren’t as strong as I wanted them to be," he said.

“I have really been working hard on setting a platform for the forwards in the first and second tackle and in the past couple of weeks I feel like each week I am improving.

“I had on of my better games on the weekend even though the score didn’t show, I’m just trying to support the boys and if I’m there, I want to make the most with the chances I have with the ball.”
