Daniel Saifiti believes solid defence is a major key to the Newcastle Knights getting in front of their opponent the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs this Saturday.

After last weekend’s slow start against the Manly Sea Eagles, the Knights are determined to come out of the block firing at Hunter Stadium.

“We need line speed and aggression and think we need to show some intent this weekend,” he said.

“They are big boys, really mobile and have go forward.

“Our ruck defence wasn’t up to first grade standard to be honest.

“We paid in the end by losing for so much.”

With plenty of motivation tied up in the desire to make amends to coach Nathan Brown as well as the Club’s fans, Saifiti is confident the Knights will be as prepared as possible.

“Browny said after the game he’d rather start the game well and die in the end than start really poorly and finish well,” the young forward added.

“There was no effort and no talk, so he was really disappointed about the start and really competing.

“It has been a focus of ours, so to go out there and start like that it was a bit unusual."
