Coach Nathan Brown is optimistic the side will lift the bar against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on Saturday, the first of four home games played in a row at Hunter Stadium.
“We are back at home and it would be nice to put in a good one,” he said on Tuesday.
“If the people of Newcastle see the young guys really ripping in and having a go, they will be happy with that.
"We have five games to go and have four at home so we want to try to make a good account of ourselves regardless of what we put on the field.
“I think the motivation is about improving and trying to get as consistent as they can."
Injured five-eight Jarrod Mullen is a possible return to the side pending his progress throughout the week following a hamstring injury.
“Jarrod is a possibility and trained well yesterday with his rehab,” Brown said.
“They thought he was going to be a week or two tops but indications are at the minute he’s definitely a possibility.
“He will joining the team training tomorrow morning and if everything goes really well and he pulls through that, I’d think he’d be a likely starter but if there’s any doubt or hiccups we wouldn’t push it at all."
Meanwhile, forward Josh King, who was named in the starting line-up for the first time on Sunday, is doubtful to play this weekend due to an ankle injury.
“Josh hurt his ankle in the second tackle of the game and he toughed it out which was great of him,” Brown said.
Brown acknowledges it will be a tough task for the Knights forward pack coming up against their sizeable opponents, the Bulldogs.
“They are certainly big, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.
“They are quite skillful with their hands and a few of the Manly boys who caused us trouble on the weekend were very direct.
“If we get our attention to detail and our techniques right, which we have proven at times this year, we want to make the contest hard and don’t want to make it an easy contest.
“The more you hang in there, you never know what will happen then.”
