Jake Mamo is confident to again take up the position of fullback when the Newcastle Knights take on the Manly Sea Eagles this Sunday.

Following a strong game in the number one jersey in Round 19 against the Melbourne Storm, he eagerly returns to the field this weekend following a one-match suspension.

“I’m back this week to help the boys as much as I can to put a win on the board,” he said on Wednesday.

Mamo is pleased to be named in his preferred position and will be looking to impress coach Nathan Brown in order to become a regular in the role.

“It’s great to be given the opportunity,” he said.

“I have in no way cemented it, but hopefully I will put in a decent performance this weekend and hold the spot for next weekend and finish the season off there.

“You get more involved than on the wing and I feel like I can contribute more top the team as well. I enjoy playing there.

“I guess if I can show (Nathan) Browny what I can do there, he’ll keep me there.”

Over the past week, Mamo has concentrated on working on the individual parts of his game.

“(I’ve been working on) defence and getting our numbers right in defence,” he added.

“That’s an important part in football, trying to stop tries and that’s been my biggest focus.

“I’m continually focused on ball playing and running the line and every other aspect as well.”

While the 2016 season has had a number of injury setbacks for Mamo, he looks forward to building momentum in the final matches of the year.

“It’s been a tough year for myself all round. In that game against Melbourne, I have gone back to where I should be and I'm feeling confident coming into this week’s game,” he admitted.

“I have been back a month or so and have had a good month and feeling good now.

“I’m feeling like I’m getting a bit of consistency now."
