Jesse Bromwich, Shaun Johnson, Kevin Proctor. These are the types of players that young Knights rake Danny Levi is sponging off in this week’s Kiwis camp.
With the New Zealand national team set to play the Kangaroos at Hunter Stadium on Friday night, Levi has been a part of preparations, learning the ropes at international level and understanding what it will take to push his game to the next level.
“It’s been pretty cool so far, getting to mingle with such high calibre players,” Levi told Knights TV at the Kiwis’ base of operations in Newcastle.
“Basically I’m learning how professional everyone is… it’s a big step up.
“The boys have been together in past years, so it’s like they’ve never been away from each other as well.”
Levi only has 13 NRL games to his name, but the 20-year-old that is still eligible for the NYC competition hasn’t looked back since making his first grade debut midway through last season.
Niggling injuries have hampered his start to 2016, but Levi has looked good in the handful of games he’s played.
“I was pretty shocked when I found out (that I got called up), my family and all that are super proud,” Levi said with a grin.
“I’m just here to learn and see how things work at international level, and hopefully just pick up as much information as I can.”
The fact that the Test is taking place in Newcastle has made the whole experience even sweeter for Levi.
“I know Newcastle loves it footy, and for this game to be at Hunter Stadium, it’s pretty cool for the fans,” he said.
“I’m just happy that I live here and I get to witness it.”
