Competition - NRL Premiership Round - Round 08 Teams - Newcastle Knights v Manly Sea Eagles - 25th of April 2016 Venue - Hunter Stadium, Broadmeadow, NSW, Photographer - Paul Barkley

Newcastle Knights hooker Danny Levi made no excuses for Monday's 26-10 loss to the Manly Sea Eagles at Hunter Stadium.

While the home side had a number of tries disallowed, Levi believes their own errors were what proved costly.

“It’s a bit of a 50/50 call there. We can’t control that,” he said when questioned whether he agreed with the rulings over the Knights’ tries.

“That’s not what lost us the game.

“It was the side’s error rate that prevented pressure.

“It was basically poor execution and our defence principles weren’t clicking.

"All the things we could control, we didn’t and that’s what cost us.”

Levi said the cause of the poor ball control could be traced back to player fatigue in the grueling match against Manly.

“It’s got a lot to do with concentration. We are giving them a lot of opportunities to tire us out,” the hooker said.

“It’s (concentration) pretty hard when you are buggered out on the field... That’s where all the dropped ball comes from and that’s what cost us the game.”

Returning from a back injury, Levi was forced to play 80 minutes after Peter Mata'utia was injured in the first half.

“It was a bit of a tough job and had to pump out an 80 when Pete went down,” he said.

“I’m happy to back and hopefully I can build on top of that.”

While the team felt disappointment for their injured teammates Mata’utia and Jarrod Mullen (hamstring) following the match, he says it’s important for the team to remain focused for their Round 9 match against the Sydney Roosters.

“I’m pretty sure those guys would be pretty upset. All the boys were upset for them,” Levi said.

“Those type of things happen in footy, but we have to keep moving forward and whoever replaces them, I’m pretty sure they’ll do a good job.

“We put it away and focus on next week now.

“That’s footy and we are building for next weekend.”
